TV actress Indu Verma gets three-year jail

TV actress Indu Verma has been convicted in the 20-year-long legal case of cheating and forgery.

42-year-old actress was finally proved guilty for misappropriating the cheques of Thomas Cook India Private Limited by purchasing jewellery worth over Rs 17.50 lakhs in 1996.

Indu Verma was convicted by a Delhi court on 5th of this month under sections: 419 (cheating by impersonation), 403 (misappropriation of property), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of IPC and she was sentenced for a three-year imprisonment.

Verma is planning to move to the Sessions court against her conviction.

In 1996, a case was lodged against Indu Verma accusing her of impersonating as Shivani Arora and buying jewellery worth Rs 17-50 lakh by using forged cheques bearing her employer’s signature. During trial, the court found that Verma was not entrusted with the custody of the cheque book and she forged by drawing three cheques to pay Rs 17.50 lakh.
