Ignoring drought, TDP govt busy luring MLAs, flays Madhu

img
Tirupati: Coming down heavily on the TDP government for indulging in `money politics’, CPM State secretary P Madhu said that the ruling party is more interested in purchase of MLAs than looking into the severe drought hitting hard scores of people in the State.

Speaking to media here on Wednesday, Madhu said that almost the entire AP is reeling under acute drought but the government has not bothered to take up the required steps to mitigate the sufferings of the people, more so in providing at least drinking water to the affected as all its attention is only on the wholesale purchase of other party MLAs. He flayed the Centre for providing Rs 470 crore against the State government demand for Rs 2,000 crpre for drought relief measures and sought the government to take up drinking water and fodder supply on priority basis in the drought hit areas.

Continuing his tirade against TDP government, the Left party leader said that for Dalits the government is reluctant to provide them a piece of land for graveyard while the same government has no hesitation for providing vast stretch of lands to the corporates. ``As per 1,235 of 2008 the government has to provide 2 acre for burial ground, even by purchasing the land in case there is no government land available’’ he said adding that most of the SC habitations were devoid of burial grounds.

The ``Neeru-Chettu’ programme saw the lands adjoining tanks which the Dalits in many villages using as burial grounds disappearing while the road margins being used as grave yard by Dalits in some areas were also now not available to them, he said while highlighting the apathy of the government in addressing Dalit’s woes.

CPM leader alleged that harassing the tribal and scheduled caste for payment of power bills even for consumption of less than 50 units.
The previous N Kiran Kumar Reddy exempted these two communities from power bill payment up to 50 units but now the TDP government is tormenting even those consuming less than 50 units of power.

He also criticized the government for issuing A GO for handing over the activities being taken up under ITDA to a private consultancy which he said will ultimately hit the job opportunity for tribal.

Madhu also opposed the government handing over Chittoor government hospital to Apollo and also extending the lease period to 33 years.CPM state committee member Umanageswar Rao, Rayalaseema Abhivridhi Vedika leader Obul, CPM district secretary K Kumar Reddy and others were present.

img
Visakhapatnam: The Andhra University authorities have cancelled the second year degree Chemistry examination, which is slated for Wednesday between 2 pm and 5 pm, following a message from unidentified miscreants just 15 minutes before the commencement of the exam.

According to sources, Registrar Prof V Umamaheswara Rao received the message to his mobile exactly at about  1.45 pm stating that Chemistry question paper  was leaked at Narsipatnam. Immediately, he compared the copy of paper sent to him with the  office copy before coming to a conclusion to cancel the exam forthwith.

There are three exam centres in Narsipatnam-Government Degree College, Rushi Degree College and Don Bosco Degree College, but it was not mentioned in the message from which college the paper was leaked. Prof Umamaheswara Rao after consulting with In-charge Vice-Chancellor Prof E A Narayana and other  senior teachers, he announced the cancellation of the exam.

However, in the remaining exam centres in the limits of Andhra University, the exam began at 2 pm and the candidates have written the exam. The second year degree exams  commenced on April 11. The Registrar has sent a three-member committee to Narsipatnam to have first hand information about the leakage and ordered for a probe.

When contacted, Prof Umamaheswara Rao admitting the leakage of the paper said that the exam was cancelled and would announce the date on which date it would be conducted again. “We are already on investigation and basing on the report, we will initiate stringent action against  the erring college management by canceling the exam centre and also those responsible for the leakage”, he added.

Bifurcation Act: Naidu reminds Centre of Congress’ debacle

img

A day after a Union Minister almost made it clear that the State should not depend on Central funds and package, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has vowed to “mount pressure” on the Centre to do justice to Andhra Pradesh.

Seeking to remind the Centre that the Congress had suffered defeat for going against the aspirations of the people, Mr. Naidu said the bifurcation had resulted in gross injustice to the five crore people and the State was left to fend for itself. The onus lies on the Centre to rectify the anomalies of bifurcation and extend support until a level playing field had been reached among the southern states, he said.

Mr. Naidu chose to talk on the issue at two events—launching of Chandranna Sanchara Chikitsa and induction of YSR Congress Bobbili MLA R V Sujaya Krishna Ranga Rao — on Wednesday to drive home the point that the “State was serious on implementation of provisions in bifurcation Act.”

In fact it appeared as if Mr. Naidu was responding to Union Rural Development Minister Chowdary Birendra Singh’s remarks inter alia Andhra Pradesh has requisite capabilities and can march ahead of others within a short period.

“The States with high urban population have more revenues compared to Andhra Pradesh where agriculture is the predominant sector. The AP registered a growth of 2.35 per cent after sweat and toil of two years. We need to go a long way to create a Capital on par with Hyderabad,” he said.

While the urban population is 35 per cent in Karnataka and Telangana, 49 per cent in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, it is only 25 per cent in AP. The per capita income of Andhra was far less compared to the neighbouring states. Their per capita income was Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 40,000 more compared to us, he said, adding, “There were many structural deficiencies. To overcome it, we need hand holding.”

Noting that “wounds of unscientific bifurcation” still festered, the Chief Minister sought to remind the Centre, though not in so many words, that it would have to face wrath of the public if provisions of the Bifurcation Act were not implemented.

Recalling that he met the Prime Minister and other Union Ministers for more than 15 times seeking Central assistance, Mr. Naidu said: “The people rejected Congress though it made many provisions in the Act. It did not get even 2 per cent votes. The Centre has to bear this in mind and start implementing the provisions.”

Pawan Kalyan to launch a New Channel?

imgReports are abuzz that Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan is planning to launch a news channel. For the same reason, He seems to be mobilizing as much funds as possible.

Recently, Pawan Kalyan made his intention to enter electoral politics by 2019 very clear. To help his voice reach as many people as possible, Jana Sena President felt the need to have his own channel just alike T-News for KCR and Sakshi for Jagan.

Most of the existing channels have been favoring one political party or the other at the time of elections. Hence, Pawan Kalyan is of the opinion its never gonna be easy to make a big difference in politics without having a own channel. He is also well aware of the fact that the media houses which have been heaping praises on him until now will take potshots once he contests polls.

Does this mean Pawan Kalyan dropped his plans to launch a Youtube channel & focusing on reaching out to the people at grassroots level? Let's see...
